The factors affecting the selection of tool holder include the machinability of workpiece material in each operation and the configuration of final parts. These factors can determine the tool holder size required to reach a specific contour or feature. The tool holder shall be as simple and easy to use as possible to minimize the possibility of operator error. What types of CNC tool holder and the characteristics of CNC tool holder?

1. When machining curved surface parts, in order to ensure that the cutting edge of the tool is tangent to the machining contour at the cutting point and avoid the interference between the cutting edge and the workpiece contour, ball head cutter, two edge milling cutter for rough machining and four edge milling cutter for semi finishing and finishing machining are generally used

2. When milling a large plane, in order to improve production efficiency and machining surface roughness, insert disc milling cutter is generally used

3. When milling small plane or step surface, general milling cutter is generally used

4. When milling keyway, in order to ensure the dimensional accuracy of keyway, two edge keyway milling cutter is generally used

5. When machining holes, drilling tools such as drill bits can be used

NC tool holder type

The tool handles commonly used in NC machining are mainly divided into drilling tool handles, boring tool handles, milling tool handles, thread tool handles and straight handle tool handles

NC machining has more strict requirements on the stiffness, accuracy, durability and dynamic balance performance of the tool. The selection of the tool should pay attention to the analysis of the structure and process of the workpiece, and comprehensively consider the processing capacity of the NC machine tool, workpiece material and process content. The processing material of the CNC tool holder is generally 40Cr.

The positioning accuracy of the tool handle includes self positioning (such as BT) and over positioning (HSK and big). The static accuracy is good, and the main difference is the dynamic accuracy. It is said that HSK can still maintain the tightness of contact with the spindle at high speed, and the dynamic accuracy is good, because it is widely used in high-speed machining.
